Applied literally, the math breaks down quickly. A 1% daily gain on a fixed baseline runs into steep diminishing returns, because each subsequent 1% improvement is objectively harder to produce as the underlying skill or habit strength rises. Thirty days into “1% better every day,” the actual compounded gain is a real but modest 35%, nowhere close to the dramatic multiplier the full-year formula implies. The number sounds most impressive specifically because it’s stretched across a timeframe long enough to let compounding do arithmetic work that has little to do with how consistently anyone can actually keep improving.
